If someone had told me that I would someday be making insects out of sterling silver, I might have laughed. I would say that my passion still lies with creating botanical jewelry, yet these bugs have added a unique, sometimes frustrating, and definitely rewarding new twist to my nature inspired work. The praying mantis took me all of today to fabricate. I reticulated silver to create the body, used various burs on my flex shaft to carve out the ridges, then did the same thing with the legs before I soldered them to the body.
This praying mantis is a miniature sculpture, NOT a piece of jewelry. It's a bit on the heavier side since it is solid sterling silver.
This piece is one of a kind.
